In many wealthy countries, vaccines are seen as a solution to escape blockades that have stagnated the economy.
However, with what happened in Seychelles, Chile and some other countries with the highest vaccination rates in the world, experts worry that vaccines alone are not enough and caution is needed when relaxing epidemic prevention.
According to published data, Seychelles is the country with the highest Covid-19 vaccination rate per capita in the world, about 61%.
Among these countries, only Israel is not currently facing a new outbreak.
Seychelles, a small island nation with a vaccination rate nearly twice that of the US, recorded 328 cases per 100,000 people, even higher than the rate in India (28 cases per 100,000 people).
Experts have pointed out a number of reasons that could cause the epidemic to flare up again in countries with high vaccination rates.
Seychelles and Maldives are both countries that opened their borders very early to welcome tourists, Dubai lifted the blockade too quickly and Chile loosened restrictions too early.
World leaders, including the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), warn that no one is safe until everyone is safe amid an imbalance in vaccine supply
