According to Carscoops, many of the company’s car models such as Escape and Bronco Sport are facing a serious risk of fire and explosion from faulty fuel injectors.

Last month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation sent an email to Ford, pointing out that the fix was included in a recall campaign for the model.

Both models are equipped with faulty fuel injectors that can crack and leak fuel or fuel vapor near ignition sources, posing the risk of the vehicle catching fire and causing injury or death.

According to the recall notice, `a cracked fuel injector in the engine will cause fuel to leak at a high rate (19 liters/hour) into the cylinder head, then spill out through an orifice and fall

Instead of replacing faulty injectors, Ford offers a solution that only reduces the risk of fire and explosion while keeping the faulty parts intact.

A message will then appear in the instrument cluster, while the engine will activate a strategy to reduce fuel pump pressure, reduce engine power and lower temperatures at potential ignition sources in the engine compartment.

NHTSA believes that this solution does not completely address the root cause of the problem, nor does it proactively replace faulty fuel injectors before they fail.

Under pressure from regulators, Ford is currently being investigated for effectiveness and other safety concerns related to this fix.

Additionally, NHTSA also wants a `summary of any testing program that has been performed to validate that the solution is sufficient to resolve the defect` along with `any cost-benefit analysis that has been performed.`

These requests imply that the government suspects Ford of putting financial interests ahead of user safety.
